Agents of Change -Choose Peace pro-social clubs are operating in schools under the Choose Peace/Stop Violence initiative. They are a continuing partnership between the Broward County School’s Department of Diversity, Prevention and Intervention, United Way of Broward County and the Children Services Council.
The “Agents of Change” peer-led clubs are formed under the leadership of students and supervised by a school-based facilitator, supported by Broward County Public Schools Office of Diversity, Prevention and Intervention staff (DPI), school prevention liaisons, and a Choose Peace/Stop Violence facilitator.
The “Agents of Change” set the tone for cultural change, inspire and empower the student population to be compassionate leaders and role models for peace in their schools and community through activities and promotional materials. Student Club Members lead all school-wide activities and meet according to an activities curriculum during the school year.
Club members develop critical pro-social skills through participation in monthly membership meetings, organizational skills and leadership participation as elected officers (President, Vice President, Media & Community Service Officer) community service, reward/recognition events. Advocacy awareness is designed as a social marketing initiative whereby club members raise awareness about youth violence and bullying.
School staff responsible for the supervision of the club receives appropriate training and technical assistance to help them with successful implementation of the clubs. Incentives are provided to staff supervising the clubs as well as to the students participating as a way to keep them engaged in the initiative. United Way provides all necessary materials and financial support to run the clubs.
Activities reinforce diversity, anti-bullying and youth violence prevention throughout the year featuring different themes and include social media components.
